For Aotearoa Art Fair 2024, Two Rooms will showcase the work of five artists. Gretchen Albrecht, one of New Zealand’s most preeminent abstract painters will be presented alongside four younger artists, Matt Arbuckle, Robbie Fraser, Peata Larkin and Tira Walsh. Recent years have seen these younger artists secure commercial and critical achievements in public venues. 

These artists are united through their investigations into the endless possibilities of abstraction. They are various in their approaches, with large scale gestural paintings by Albrecht and Walsh, tightly executed artworks by Larkin and Fraser and process driven paintings by Matt Arbuckle. The diversity of artworks encourages the viewer to rethink how they perceive the material world, and how they respond to it.

All five artists will be showing previously unseen artwork that engage with persistent contemporary themes, reinvigorating the dialogue around current socio-political and socio-cultural concerns that persist to be realized in provoking abstract painting.
