Auckland Art Fair 2021 Gretchen Albrecht Matt Arbuckle Conor Clarke Jude Rae Shaun Waugh Areta Wilkinson
24 - 28 February 2021
Two Rooms is presenting work by five artists, Gretchen Albrecht, Matt Arbuckle, Conor Clarke, Jude Rae and Shaun Waugh – two photographers and three painters, bringing together a younger generation to exhibit alongside respected senior practitioners. The visual language of each artist’s work differs, however they all conceptually engage with their genres, either abstract or representational, continually testing the viewers capacity for critical reflection and questioning the ongoing role of contemporary image making. All five artists work with the complexities of colour, putting their chromatically driven practices into an uncertain terrain between photography and painting and exploiting the tensions between them.
Additionally Two Rooms will present contemporary jewellery by Areta Wilkinson who has forged precious metals on anvil stones sourced from two ancestral boundaries near her home – the major Waimakariri River and the smaller Rakahuri River. Areta Wilkinson has developed a rich art practice in which personal adornment and object-making are considered in relation to mātauranga Māori (Māori knowledge systems).
