Andrew Barber will once more reclaim the floor and architectural elements of the gallery space as legitimate sites for his practice in his upcoming painting installation. Shipwreck taps into a longstanding tradition of approaches to painting and rendering outside of the conventional art context. His work looks to the full spectrum of painting from high art conventions through to the expertise of domestic and commercial painters. Informed by labour hierarchies of creative production and his current everyday life, Barber explores how the painting of areas, such as the usually overlooked surface of a floor, transforms the gallery into an active space.
