Stella Brennan with David Perry
Stella Brennan’s latest work South Pacific (2007) continues the artist’s preoccupation with historical research, artefact and documentation. The new work examines the link between sonar, radar and ultrasound; technologies for making images from non-visual sources. Playing with relations between the visual, aural and textual, the film explores how the Second World War changed the perception of oceanic space and the conflict’s legacy in the region. South Pacific recalls stories of tropical lagoons littered with rusting ordnance and coral islands flattened for runways. South Pacific was exhibited at the Liverpool Biennale, 2007
