For the viewer the eye goes where the paint goes, and when movement appears continuous, when ribbons and strokes of colour loop around, so too does the responsive eye. The paintings in this exhibition share similar elements – a system, an order, a set of rules – but their modality hinges on the crucial relationships between painted line and colour, with the boundary of the stretcher/object acting as a measure between balance, freedom and the limitlessness of paint.
